Whether you have just moved to Hamilton, are visiting Hamilton for the Day, or have lived here your entire life, there are plenty of great things to do in Hamilton this summer. So, we’ve made it even easier for you! If you’re looking for things to do in Hamilton this summer, check out this guide that we’ve put together for you!

1. Hiking Trails

Now more than ever, we are outside and connected with nature. It’s been a bit of a strange year to say the least, we’ve all felt very cooped up during the winter months, but summer is here and it’s time to get outside! Enjoy Hamilton’s outdoor playground and experience some of the many great hiking trails that are located within the area. Great for all people alike, whether you’re an adventurer, mountain biker, looking for some quiet reflection, there is a trail for you!

Christie Lake is a great spot to get outside in Hamilton, offering swimming, boating and 10 kilometers of amazing hiking trails through meadows and towering pine forests. Please note that there is a $10.00 parking fee per vehicle.

The Dundas Valley Trail system is another beautiful, lush, and hilly trail system that sprawls through 1,200 hectares of forest. The 40-kilometer-long trail system is accessible from a few different places.

2. Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens are the largest botanical garden of its kind in Canada. Designated a National Historic Site and part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve is this beautiful open-air museum filled with natural wonders.

Operational year round and comprised of 2,700 acres with 4 distinct gardens, 27 kilometers of nature trails and so much more!

3. African Lion Safari

If you live in Southern Ontario, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the African Lion Safari and if you haven’t, you’re about too! Canada’s original safari adventure provides an immersive safari experience to guests as you drive through their expansive game reserves allowing you to get closer to the wild. Experience the wild from the comfort of your own vehicle as animals roam freely throughout the 7 distinct game reserves, including: Nairobi Sanctuary, Simba Lion Country, Timbavati Lion Country, Wankie Bushland Trail, Rocky Ridge Veldt, Australasia, and The Americas.

4. Beachfront

Hamilton is home to some beautiful shoreline along Lake Ontario. The waterfront trail is a popular spot for those who want to rollerblade, walk or cycle along the beautiful lakeside. The Waterfront trail is a long trail network that stretches far beyond just Hamilton. Located on the trail include Baranga’s on the beach, a great place for Mediterranean food with a large patio and nearby beach volleyball courts. If you’re looking for something to go, you won’t want to miss Hutch’s on the beach. Famous for their fish and chips, milkshakes, burgers, and hotdogs since 1946.

5. Food & Drink

We could spend a whole day writing about all the great food and drink places to check out in Hamilton. There are honestly so many! We’re a little biased, being located on James Street North. There are so many great little places just around the corner from where we are. One of our personal favourites is Bread Bar, their pizza is amazing! A quick drive around the James Street North area will reveal a ton of great places that offer something for everyone. Another great spot to check out for food and drink in Hamilton is Locke Street. Again, a quick drive down Locke Street will reveal a bunch of awesome unique and locally owned that will leave your mouth watering for more.

6. The Farmers Market

You’re probably wondering, a larger city like Hamilton has a farmers market? It does! Believe it or not, the farmers market was established in 1837 making Hamilton home to one of the oldest farmers markets in Ontario. In 2011, the market was completely renovated and is located at the corner of King Street and James Street. Whether you’re looking for take-out food from some amazing vendors such as Flying G’Nosh, which serves dishes inspired by Indian cuisine and makes all their sauces from scratch to coffee and treats. There is simply something for everyone at the Hamilton Farmers Market.
